Steve Albanese ’07 earns Coach of the Year Award for cross country success

Steve Albanese, a 2007 alumnus of North Central College, has been named Coach of the Year for the San Diego region by the California Interscholastic Federation.

Steve Albanese, a 2007 alumnus of North Central College, has been named Coach of the Year for the San Diego region by the California Interscholastic Federation, which governs interscholastic athletics in the State of California, reports the Sentinel newspaper in Ramona, Calif.

Albanese is boys’ cross country coach at Ramona High School, a position he’s held since 2009. The team won this year’s CIF San Diego Section Division II cross country championship.

The property at 48 E. Jefferson Ave. was named Abe (pronounced ah-bee) House during an unveiling ceremony Nov. 12. Bill Abe, a 1950 alumnus of North Central, and Mary (Bomberger)—a 1952 alumna of the College—attended the surprise unveiling with other family members.

Chicago’s Organic Theater Company brings its fan-favorite holiday show “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” to Naperville in December for five performances at North Central College.

“Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” is a funny and moving work that brings the ghost of Jacob Marley out of the shadows and into the spotlight to tell his version of the Dickens classic. Written by award-winning playwright, actor and director Tom Mula, this fanciful tour of Marley’s afterlife and his assignment to redeem Scrooge and himself is a delightful holiday show.

North Central College celebrated its Sesquicentennial in grand style Friday night, Nov. 11. More than 2,200 guests that included students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members gathered in the Residence Hall/Recreation Center for an evening of dining, dancing and entertainment.

The occasion marked the 150th anniversary of the first day of classes on Nov. 11, 1861.

Nov. 7, 2011—Naperville Mayor A. George Pradel has declared Friday, Nov. 11 "North Central College Day" in the City of Naperville.

A resolution commemorating the College’s Sesquicentennial was read at the Nov. 1 meeting of the Naperville City Council and presented to College President Harold R. Wilde by council member Robert Fieseler.

Josh Stumpenhorst ’03 gets to go to NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala. He’ll also get to meet President Obama and the first lady at a White House dinner in the spring. He may even be invited to throw out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

Those are some of the perks that come with being named the Illinois Teacher of the Year for 2011-2012. The Illinois State Board of Education announced the award Oct. 22 during the Those Who Excel banquet in Normal.

North Central College men’s cross country and track & field alumnus Patrick Rizzo ’05 finished eighth Sunday at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

North Central College men’s cross country and track & field alumnus Patrick Rizzo ’05 finished eighth Sunday at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Rizzo told the Chicago Tribune he didn’t have any problem with the mile-high altitude as he clocked 2 hours, 21 minutes, 58 seconds in what was a tuneup for January’s Olympic trials.
