Jan. 20, 2011—North Central College will host its 15th Annual International Festival on Feb. 13, offering the community an opportunity to become immersed in a variety of cultures from across the globe. During the festival, visitors can sample authentic international cuisine, enjoy ethnic dancing and live music, experience a language immersion room and take part in games and crafts from around the world.

AMA chapter receives Honorable Mention in marketing contest

North Central’s American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter earns Honorable Mention at contest, finishing in the top 25 internationally.

Feb. 4, 2011—North Central’s collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) earned an Honorable Mention award in the Annual International Case Competition. For the third consecutive year, North Central’s chapter placed in the top 25 internationally.

The AMA Case Competition is a yearlong event that brings top marketing students together to work on a marketing challenge submitted by a sponsoring organization. This year’s sponsor is Nintendo.

Mock Trial team wins awards at invitational tourney

North Central’s Mock Trial team wins civility award and senior Josh Bailey is named Outstanding Attorney at national invitational tournament.

Feb. 4, 2011—North Central’s Mock Trial team competed at the 23rd annual National Invitational Tournament at Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, Jan. 28-29. The tournament is the largest and most challenging contest the team faces all year. Of the 70 participating teams, 50 earned bids to last season’s national competition.

April 22, 2011—Musical talents of North Central College students will be showcased in the stunning acoustics of Wentz Concert Hall during a series of six performances in May and June.

The concerts feature both choral and instrumental ensembles performing in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. April 5, 2011—North Central College seniors Melissa J. Massey and Patrick Tyler Buchenot will showcase their artwork in a two-person exhibit titled “Phantasm,” featuring two-dimensional work, drawings and mixed media.

The free exhibit runs April 6 through May 9 at the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. The artists will greet visitors during an opening reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

First-year students experience life in New Orleans

First-year student Gail Oesterle reflects on her experiences learning and serving in New Orleans.

A group of North Central students spent a week in New Orleans this December as part of the First-Year Experience program. Over the summer, all incoming first-year students read the Dave Eggers book “Zeitoun” about a family’s struggles in the Crescent City following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in 2005. The theme of “Building an Ideal City” was explored during the seven-week FYE 100 course in the fall.

Two members of North Central’s Mock Trial team were recognized at the University of St. Francis Mock Trial Midwest Challenge Part V Tournament Dec. 4-5. Joshua Bailey ’11, majoring in political science and English writing, earned awards for Outstanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness—a notable achievement because students are rarely recognized for exceptional performance in both roles.
