Keith Matune M ’10

Keith Matune M ’10 was named the State of Illinois Law and Government Teacher of the Year by the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Chicago (CRFC). This is one of the most prestigious awards given to social studies teachers statewide. Matune has been a teacher at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL, for the past nine years. He was proud to share this recognition with his father Walter, a retired social studies teacher from Downers Grove North High School, who won the award in 1997.

Chris Hodge M ’10 is an art teacher at Naperville Central High School. His artwork was displayed in Marmion Academy’s Dr. Scholl’s Exhibit Mezzanine, November 4-18. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from North Central. With his pursuit of higher education behind him, Hodge looks forward to creating artwork in his new studio at Water Street Studios in Batavia, IL. North Central College ranks among the top 15 percent of private, nonprofit schools in the 2011-2012 survey by Payscale.com. The mid-career median salary for North Central College graduates is $81,300, ranking No. 39 out of 303 schools in the private, nonprofit category.

North Central College is among a select group of institutions nationwide highlighted by The Princeton Review in “The Best 377 Colleges, 2013 Edition.”

Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the book, which is based on the Princeton Review’s surveys of 122,000 college students. The Princeton Review began surveying college students and publishing its findings in 1992.

The State of Illinois has approved North Central College’s graduate program that prepares candidates to become principals and other school leaders.

North Central College for many years has offered a master’s of education (MAEd) degree.

But the state has legislated new and more rigorous requirements for all principal-preparation programs, and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) must approve all newly designed programs by Sept. 1.
