Wolf conducts workshop to teachers of German

Gregory H. Wolf, associate professor in German, conducted a workshop and seminar for the Arkansas chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German.

Gregory H. Wolf, associate professor in German, conducted a statewide workshop and seminar, “German Program Building through Articulation, Advocacy, and Outreach,” for the Arkansas chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German, held March 11-13 in Arkansas. The three-day immersion event concentrated on modeling best practices to build and strengthen German language programs on the K-16 level through effective advocacy of the discipline, productive vertical and horizontal curricular articulation, and innovative outreach programs and community building.

His repertoire included five selections. He also performed as part of the Naperville Chamber Players with flutist Marie Bennett, lecturer in music, at the 2011 Jane Hampton-Chipman Memorial Recital Series at First Congregational Church in Elgin March 18.

College hosts a comic review of calculus

North Central welcomes two shows April 6 of “Calculus: The Musical!”—a theatrical journey through the concepts of calculus with a comedic approach to learning.

March 14, 2011—North Central College welcomes a return engagement of “Calculus: The Musical!”—a dynamic theatrical journey through the concepts and history of calculus with a unique, comedic approach to learning.

High school math teacher Marc Gutman of Minneapolis found that setting formulas and rules to music helped his students learn and retain tricky information. His classroom exercises became the seed for this show, which will interest middle school, high school and college-aged students and teachers.

Concert Choir takes first-ever European tour

The Concert Choir will embark on its first tour in Italy March 16-24 and sing at concerts in Florence, Venice and Siena and masses at the Vatican in Rome.

March 4, 2011—North Central College’s Concert Choir will embark on its first-ever European concert tour March 16-24. Some 36 students of the nearly 60-voice mixed choir have raised their own financial support and will participate in the American Celebration of Music tour to various sites in Italy.

Directed by Professor of Music Jeordano Martínez, the Concert Choir will sing during Catholic masses at St. Peter’s Basilica at Vatican City in Rome and at St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and at concerts in Florence, Venice and Siena.

Forensics team excels at state championships

North Central’s forensics team won three first-place titles and a team sweepstakes award at Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Championships.

March 10, 2011—North Central College’s forensics team excelled in this year’s State Championship Tournament, hosted by the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association (IIFA) March 4-5 at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb. North Central won three first-place titles and garnered a top prize, IIFA’s George Armstrong Cumulative Team Sweepstakes award.

Nearly 200 students, representing 19 Illinois colleges and universities, attended the tournament. Competition was held in both debate and 12 individual events in order to determine this year’s State Champions.
