Elaine Cannell received the Outstanding Major in English Studies Award during North Central College’s 2015 Honors Convocation.

Elaine Cannell ’15, daughter of Robert and Laura Cannell of Kansas City, Mo., received the Outstanding Major in English Studies Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

A senior, Elaine majored in English literature and English writing at North Central College. She is a graduate of Kaneland High School in Maple Park, Ill.

Caitlin Skrbec ’15, daughter of Bradford and Eileen Skrbec of Naperville, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Music Education Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.  

A graduating senior, Caitlin majored in choral and instrumental music education at North Central College. She is a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School.

Emily Labedz ’15, daughter of Frank and Karyn Labedz, of Naperville, was awarded the Outstanding Student in Interdisciplinary Studies Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Emily majored in sociology and German with additional studies in gender and women’s studies and history of ideas at North Central College. She is a graduate of Naperville North High School.

North Central College has recognized Jonathon Kingzette as the 2015 Outstanding Senior Man and Heidi Nelson as Outstanding Senior Woman.  

The annual awards recognize one senior man and one senior woman for their successes in the classroom, their involvement and contributions to the campus community outside the classroom, and their future potential.

2015 Honors Convocation award winners

North Central recognizes high-achieving students for academic and co-curricular excellence at the College’s 39th annual Honors Convocation.

On May 12, North Central College held its 39th annual Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that publicly celebrates student excellence in the academic and co-curricular life of the College. Some 55 students were introduced by faculty members, who recognized them for their academic achievements. In addition, a record 41 College Scholars, eight Richter Grant recipients and some 30 Scholar All-Americans were recognized for their successes.

North Central College welcomes Dr. David Pritchard as keynote speaker for the 18th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research May 12.

North Central College welcomes Dr. David Pritchard as keynote speaker for the College’s 18th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research on May 12.

The public is invited to Pritchard’s talk at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. His keynote address kicks off a day of student oral and poster presentations held during the Rall Symposium, a forum for North Central College undergraduate students to present their independent scholarly research projects across all academic areas.

North Central College’s new minor in film and screen studies is designed to complement numerous majors and prepare students for a variety of careers.

“Film and screen studies will help students build transferable critical-thinking skills,” says Lisa Long, professor of English and chair of the College’s Division of Arts and Letters. “It will draw upon traditional theory but help students develop the visual literacy needed in today’s world.”
