A Student Leadership Conference—open to all students and especially student leaders at any level—will take place on campus Friday evening and Saturday during the day, April 13 and 14, with guest speakers and breakout sessions.

“It’s an opportunity for all students to develop their leadership skills,” says Jeremy Gudauskas, assistant dean of students and co-coordinator of the conference. “There will be special how-to and skills training sessions for both emerging and advanced leaders, as well as inspiring talks from alumni and community guests.”

In the six years since its inception, North Central College’s The Union has become a popular underground music and arts venue in the Chicago suburbs at 129 W. Benton Ave. in downtown Naperville. This October, The Union will host a number of artists and events, including a return visit from the nonprofit, mental health movement To Write Love on Her Arms and rapper FM Supreme during Anti-Hate Week.

The community is invited to experience some of the best Chicago-area songwriters performing before a live audience and a panel of music industry veterans at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25. Presented by The Union and Backthird Audio as part of the Self Employment in the Arts (SEA) Conference, the event will be held at 129 W. Benton Ave. Tickets are $10/ public, $5/NCC students or SEA conference attendees

The Union is back and has joined forces with the Black Student Association and Residence Life to host the Poetry Slam Friday, Jan. 21, as part of Martin Luther King Week. The featured poet is New Yorker Carlos Andres Gomez, as well as students and other area poets. The evening is free to students, $5 to the public, and starts at 7 p.m. at 129 W. Benton Ave.

The Union and Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) join forces Friday, Sept. 10, to kick off another fall season at The Union and to help raise funds with a benefit concert for SIFE’s fair-trading coffee partners in Guatemala. The evening of great music, coffee and hearing about North Central’s connection with Guatemalan coffee suppliers begins at 7 p.m. at 129 W.

“We started with the simple idea that great art can inspire great change,” says Jeremy Gudauskas, director of ministry and service. “Five years and hundreds of events later we’re thrilled with what The Union has become to so many.” A stacked lineup of talented songwriters and musicians will perform two anniversary shows Friday, May 7. The early show at 7 p.m. features The Wayside with Andy Osenga; the late show at 9:30 p.m. features Joe Pug with Kevin Prchal. For tickets call the box office at 630-637-SHOW (7469).
