King named contest finalist, awarded fellowship for novella

Patricia King, adjunct assistant professor English, was a Finalist in the Fiction Category of the 2010 Summer Literary Seminars Unified Literary Contest for her novella, “Angels Unawares.” Her work was one of 1,200 submissions from around the world. As a result, she was awarded a Summer Literary Seminars fellowship to attend one of their writing workshops this year.

Patricia King receives grant from Illinois Arts Council

Patricia King, adjunct assistant professor English, was awarded an Individual Artist Professional Development grant from the Illinois Arts Council for support of “opportunities and projects related to an individual artist’s career.” She will use the grant to attend a master’s class in fiction this summer in New York City with Viking/Penguin Senior Editor Joshua Kendall.

Patricia King wins awards for short stories and novella

Patricia King, adjunct assistant professor English, won awards for two of her short stories and for her novella. “A Luck that Will Save Her” won Honorable Mention for Hunger Mountain's 2009 Howard Mosher Short Fiction Prize. “Dogs in Guatemala” was a Finalist in the 2009 Short Story Contest by The Journal, a literary magazine of The Ohio State University. Her novella, “Angels Unawares,” was a Finalist in the 2009 William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition.
