During fall term, North Central’s Oesterle Library will feature publications by faculty members, books on global human rights, and news about Banned Books Week, Constitution Day, National Freedom of Speech Week and more. The displays are showcased in the library’s lobby.

During winter term, North Central’s Oesterle Library will feature publications by 10 faculty members and the history of Oesterle Library. The displays are showcased in the library’s lobby.

North Central College’s own Jeanne Bortolini, secretary at Oesterle Library, took the stage Saturday, Oct. 8, to sing vocals with the legendary rock and roll band Chicago.

“It was surreal! A dream come true that happens once in a lifetime,” she says.

It happened in Lantz Arena at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston as part of the band’s Sing with Chicago promotion that gives fans the chance to win a VIP fan experience and help raise funds and awareness to end breast cancer.

During fall term, Oesterle Library will display exhibits in its lobby that highlight 9/11, Banned Books and Freedom of Speech weeks, Founders Day 11/11/11 and professional publications by writers in the College community. The dates and exhibit descriptions include:

Sept. 6-18:
“9/11/01 - 9/11/11 A Ten-Year Retrospective” features books from the library collection representing a variety of disciplines that address issues related to the terrorist attacks.

Among the many planned events related to the “Harry Potter’s World” national traveling exhibit in Oesterle Library is a community event, Muggle Children’s Day, this Saturday, May 7. The library will be transformed into Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. North Central’s education department and the library have planned free activities for some 100 children in fourth through eighth grades in local partner schools to encourage a love of reading and interest in modern science.
