Senior Nick Robinson, who played shortstop for the conference champion Cardinals this season, has been drafted by the Boston Red Sox, according to a report. Robinson, the son of Red Sox Texas-area scout Jim Robinson, likely will sign with the organization and begin his career with the Lowell Spinners, SoxProspects.com reports. Robinson batted .427 with 56 runs scored and set new North Central records for hits (76) and at-bats (178) this season, finishing among the Cardinals' career top 10 in hits (199), at-bats (560), runs (123), total bases (245) and triples (7).

In the opening round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championships on May 13, the women’s softball team defeated Trine University (Ind.), 8-6. The Cardinals advance to take on fifth-ranked and top-seeded Ohio Northern University Friday, May 14, at 2 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind. In baseball, the CCIW Baseball Tournament begins Friday, May 14, at home in Zimmerman Stadium. The Cardinals take on Illinois Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. Competition continues Saturday and Sunday. The Cardinals (31-7, 17-4 CCIW) posted their first shutout in five weeks and their fourth of the season, securing sole possession of the 2010 CCIW Championship May 9, shutting out Illinois Wesleyan, 4-0. North Central will host the CCIW tournament this weekend, May 13-15.

At Saturday’s April 17 baseball game against Carthage, Cardinal team members hosted 12 youth from Triple Threat Mentoring in Aurora. Cardinal student-athletes played field games with the children before the noon game, autographed baseballs and invited the youth to run onto the field for the pregame ceremonies and National Anthem.
