Noreen Mysyk, adjunct assistant professor of speech communication, gave a presentation titled “The Place of Relationships in Career Development” at a special symposium at Lewis University Oct. 2. Mysyk was the organizer and presenter of the event titled, Today’s Human Resources Professional as Communicator, which included speakers on communication in labor relations and how to conduct an investigation.

Barry Skurkis, associate professor of art, is curator and participant in a Chicago Society of Artists Members Exhibit at the Anderson Art Center in Kenosha, Wis., which runs through Oct. 24. He secured the work of 32 artists and 119 pieces of art, including three new works of his own.

Jazz pianist Frank Caruso is the featured performer in tonight’s jazz faculty concert. Accompanying him will be Jack Mouse on drums and Jim Cox on bass; vocalist Janice Borla will perform a song. Paloma Martinez-Cruz, assistant professor of Spanish, and Christine Rabenold, assistant professor of art and student art gallery director, have co-curated a multimedia art exhibition titled “Strong and Chata: We Are All Narizona.” The show deals with the concept of immigration and national inclusion and features both celebrated and emerging local artists from around the country. Located at The Beer Run Gallery in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, 1104 W. 18th St., the exhibit runs Sept. 18-Oct. 24 and will be participating in the Pilsen Open Studios art walk Oct. 16-17.

Frank Caruso publishes text on piano improvisation

Frank Caruso, pianist and lecturer in music, has co-written a manual titled “Piano Improvisation: A Powerful Practical System” with Karl Mollison. It illustrates the basic principles of improvisation for aspiring jazz students and is called “a great asset for jazz musicians regardless of their instrument,” by Jack Mouse, North Central’s coordinator of jazz studies and adjunct instructor of music.
