Ann Durkin Keating, Dr. C. Frederick Toenniges Professor of History, and Mary Kay Hyett, office manager, Office of Community Development, will be inducted to the Naperville Heritage Society’s Heritage Hall of Honor Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. at Naper Settlement. The yearly recognition honors people and organizations that have made significant contributions to preserving the history of Naperville. Keating will be recognized for her historical contributions.

North Central’s second Summer Music Theatre production, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore,” opens Thursday, July 29, for four weekend performances. Director Matt Boresi ’97, lecturer of theatre, brings a new twist to this classic hit, incorporating original dialog that had been dropped. The story of “H.M.S.” takes place aboard a British naval vessel in the 1840s and is a love story between members of different social classes.

Erik Bock, a North Central student-at-large who’s taking statistics and management courses this summer, was featured in the news after rescuing a young teen from the flooded waters of the DuPage River July 27. Police said it appeared five teens were playing in the river at Knoch Knolls Park when one of them was carried away on a raft. Bock heard screams while doing yard work at his parents’ home in Naperville and waded into the nearby rushing water to free the teen. Bock hopes to complete his studies at Notre Dame University in three years plus a summer.

The Naperville City Council is expected to officially approve the plan July 20. Building a new science center is a focus of the plan and the Tribune article. The archeological exploits of James Henry Breasted, an 1890 North Central College alumnus cited as inspiration for the Indiana Jones character, will be featured at noon today, Tuesday, July 13, on "Worldview," a global affairs program produced by National Public Radio affiliate WBEZ-FM 91.5 in Chicago.
