On Monday, May 21, students are invited to hear a free talk by Olin Joynton, president of Alpena Community College in Michigan since 2004. He will speak on the topic, “Is a Teaching Career at a Community College Level For You?” at noon in the Fireside Lounge at the Harold and Eva White Activities Center.

Joynton is a strong advocate and supporter of community college education and will speak about career opportunities in both teaching and administration in community colleges. For more information contact Tad Lehe, professor of philosophy, at 630-637-5338.

North Central presents its annual Japanese Spring Festival—featuring food and free activities and performances—on Monday, May 14. It will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. Visitors can stop by before the Last Lecture, which begins at 8 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall.

The Dyson Wellness Center invites all North Central College students, faculty and staff to its Wild World of Wellness Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Res/Rec Center. Dyson has partnered with the College’s Human Resources office, Chartwells and some 80 community businesses and North Central organizations to promote various ways to stay healthy emotionally, spiritually and physically.

At the CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University May 4-5, the men’s team cruised to its second straight conference championship, and its third in the last four years. The fourth-ranked Cardinals placed first in just three of the 21 events, but collected 13 second-place finishes and eight third-place showings to put up 285 points and claim the 34th CCIW title in the program’s history. Ninth-ranked Augustana College was second in the final standings with 216.5 points.

Tonight, North Central College’s 16-voice Chamber Singers presents its spring concert “Metamorphosis” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in Wentz Concert Hall. The concert includes a retrospective of the year’s Chamber Singers music, including Renaissance and contemporary works, pieces by Eric Whitacre and Imogen Heap, songs in English, Portuguese, Xhosa, Latin and French, and an original piece by Brian Mengler ’13.

Facing some of the nation’s best competition, the fourth-ranked men’s track and field proved equal to the task at the 103rd annual Drake Relays, establishing a new school record and turning in some of this season’s top performances throughout the NCAA Division III ranks. Click here to read student-athlete results for the 4x200-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, pole vault, shuttle hurdle relay, 10,000-meter run and distance medley relay. There are no team scores in this contest.
