John Madormo, North Central College assistant professor of broadcast communication and general manager of WONC-FM 89.1, has authored a young-readers novel that was released nationwide through publisher Penguin Books for Young Readers on May 10.

The Dyson Wellness Center invites all North Central College students, faculty and staff to its Wild World of Wellness Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Res/Rec Center. Dyson has partnered with the College’s Human Resources office, Chartwells and some 80 community businesses and North Central organizations to promote various ways to stay healthy emotionally, spiritually and physically.

At the CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University May 4-5, the men’s team cruised to its second straight conference championship, and its third in the last four years. The fourth-ranked Cardinals placed first in just three of the 21 events, but collected 13 second-place finishes and eight third-place showings to put up 285 points and claim the 34th CCIW title in the program’s history. Ninth-ranked Augustana College was second in the final standings with 216.5 points.

Tonight, North Central College’s 16-voice Chamber Singers presents its spring concert “Metamorphosis” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in Wentz Concert Hall. The concert includes a retrospective of the year’s Chamber Singers music, including Renaissance and contemporary works, pieces by Eric Whitacre and Imogen Heap, songs in English, Portuguese, Xhosa, Latin and French, and an original piece by Brian Mengler ’13.

Facing some of the nation’s best competition, the fourth-ranked men’s track and field proved equal to the task at the 103rd annual Drake Relays, establishing a new school record and turning in some of this season’s top performances throughout the NCAA Division III ranks. Click here to read student-athlete results for the 4x200-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, pole vault, shuttle hurdle relay, 10,000-meter run and distance medley relay. There are no team scores in this contest.

Chicago Chamber Musicians present powerful masterworks of the chamber canon tonight April 27. Call box office for special $10 CardinalTix tickets.

Part of the College’s 2011-2012 Sesquicentennial Fine & Performing Arts Season, the performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall. Tickets are regularly $35 and $25; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469).

Graduating seniors are invited to apply to present a speech on behalf of their class during Commencement. Any senior may apply and pick up an application at the front desk of the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. It’s due in WAC at 5 p.m. Friday, May 4.

The application process includes answering some questions, providing a resume and draft of a three- to five-minute speech. Based on the application, applicants are then selected to meet with the selection committee and are given a chance to deliver their speech. Selection is completed by the end of May.

Hey students! $5 tickets are still available to see Switchfoot on campus May 20, but the tickets are going fast! Limit two tickets per student.

Once these are gone, the ticket price returns to $15/student with a North Central ID. Stop by the box office at the Fine Arts Center, Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
