In addition to Jim Rank ’58 and Bob Dunphey ’85, the final three inductees to North Central’s 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame are Craig Stefan ’87 for baseball, Dan Baker ’89 for track and field and Susan DeNigris ’02 Kane for track and field. The induction ceremony will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Wentz Concert Hall. Craig Stefan ’87 stood out as one of the top performers in baseball during what could easily be called the most successful era ever for the program, 1984 to 1987.

North Central's football team escalated its offensive wizardry to a new level Oct. 10 against North Park University, covering nearly 600 yards in an 83-7 smash of the Vikings at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. During fall term 17 students and Jeff Anstine, associate professor of management, are studying in Costa Rica. They take intensive Spanish and academic courses and live with families in the town of Quepos. On Oct. 3, the team volunteered to plant more than 200 trees in partnership with Titi Conservation Alliance.

North Central College and Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center received a 2009 Design Award from the Precast/ Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), headquartered in Chicago. The award is an Honorable Mention for Best Public/Institutional Building.

There’s still time for students to attend the free Chicago Graduate and Professional School Fair, hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC), on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at UIC. Some 190 schools and programs will be represented. Career Development is arranging transportation for students; call 630-637-5141. In addition, students have an opportunity to take free practice exam tests for the GRE, MCAT and LSAT on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. This is hosted by Kaplan. The free practice GMAT is now available online.

Join the Oct. 2 celebration: Naperville Backs the Bid

The City of Naperville is poised to celebrate when the International Olympic Committee announces the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics on Oct. 2 around noon. A street festival celebrating Naperville’s community spirit will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, along Chicago Avenue between Main and Washington Streets. The campus community is encouraged to take part in the celebration as well. Students are encouraged to gather on campus in The Cage or Geiger Hall lounge around the TV monitors to see and hear the news broadcast starting at 11:15 a.m.
