Faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the end of the term and enjoy food, art and music Friday, March 12, in Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center. Attend a Gallery and Artists Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. in Schoenherr Art Gallery, followed by a concert at 8 p.m. in Wentz Concert Hall featuring eight of the College’s internationally known jazz faculty artists. Your guest is welcome too. Free appetizers and drinks will be served during the Gallery Reception.

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its 2010 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Midwest Region Award winners March 10 with three of the four award winners from North Central. Al Carius was honored as the Head Coach of the Year, Tim Winder was named Assistant Coach of the Year while pole vaulter Jake Winder ’10 was selected as the Field A

Heading into the last week of classes and finals, students are letting off some steam playing in the Winter Intramural Championship games. After six weeks of regular season play, teams competing in basketball, speedball, soccer and volleyball moved on to single-elimination playoffs for their respective sport. Those teams that advanced on to the finals are competing this week for campus bragging rights. Held in Merner Field House, four tournaments are yet to play, March 9-11.

A delegation from The New American Colleges & Universities (NAC&U) will be on campus Wednesday and Thursday, March 10-11, to assess North Central’s student affairs programs. The evaluators are administrators from various NAC&U schools who are in Chicago this week for a Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) conference.

Heading into NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this weekend March 12-13, North Central's men’s track and field took over as the nation’s No. 1 team for the first time. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) made the announcement March 8 in its latest indoor track & field national team rankings for NCAA Division III. The Cardinals led the national field with 12 entries.

This year’s Sankofa service trip, titled “Remember the Alamo,” will take seven students to San Antonio, Texas, where they'll explore a part of American history to better understand current day situations, various cultural groups that live there, and society's responsibilities to those groups. The Office of Multicultural Affairs, led by director Viviana Kabbabe-Thompson, is sponsoring this service trip March 17-27. Students will visit the sites of the Alamo (photo), the Mexican-American War, San Jose missions, museums and the original borders of Mexico.

This week’s film (episode 2) sees the team of North Central SIFE students arriving in the small community of San Lucas in Guatemala where they're introduced to coffee for the first time and begin to learn about the important mission projects.

“Pippin” is directed, choreographed, staged and coordinated entirely by senior students majoring in musical theatre. Staged March 4-7, the play is a hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale and winner of 11 Tony Awards by Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Seniors Mandy Nousain and Maggie Wimp Scott will do-direct four performances at 7:30 p.m. March 4, 5 and 6, and at 2 p.m. March 7 in Pfeiffer Hall. The story of “Pippin” takes place once upon a time, when a young prince Pippin longs to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment.
