North Central College supports and encourages core sustainability values and actions in all aspects of campus life. Protect Your Groundwater Day on Tuesday, Sept. 11, is an annual recognition day promoted by the National Ground Water Association.

Sustainability Coordinator Brittany Graham says groundwater protection can be broken down into two categories—protection and conservation—and we can each take positive action in both areas.

The men’s basketball team traveled to Italy this summer for a chance to compete internationally and see some of Italy’s great historical sites. During the 2011-2012 season, the men tied the school record with 22 wins, making the school’s deepest postseason run in the NCAA tournament.

On the basketball court, the reigning CCIW champions played an afternoon game on Aug. 4 with the Ostia Sharks professional team in Rome. The Cardinals (photo, light jerseys) pulled away from the Sharks, 98-72, in a competitive game. A second game in Florence was canceled.

The City of Naperville announced that the Loomis Street crossing of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad will be closed for one week while construction crews perform track maintenance at the crossing.
 
The closure is scheduled to take place beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, and ending at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances. The crossing will be closed to both traffic and pedestrians for the week. While repairs are taking place, the City will also be replacing defective sidewalk at and near the crossing.

Due to upcoming construction activities along the Sesquicentennial Walkway, several areas will be affected starting Monday, Aug. 13, through the completion of the project in late fall.

A temporary fence will be installed around the perimeter of the Van Buren parking lot, adjacent to the 116 S. Brainard House. Also, accessiblity to the alley will be restricted and parking will not be permitted in any of the gravel lots behind the faculty/staff houses between Van Buren and Jefferson Avenues.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) will conduct its fourth annual live chat with the eight head football coaches in the conference on Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Augustana College’s Rob Cushman, Carthage College’s Tim Rucks, Elmhurst College’s Tim Lester and Wheaton College’s Mike Swider will join the chat from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 6.
