The North Central College Athletics Department hosted the eighth annual Huddle on Sept. 13 at the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, with President Harold Wilde providing an inspirational message to student-athletes.

The Huddle is North Central College’s annual fall term celebration, bringing together all Cardinal student-athletes, athletics staff members and faculty mentors. It’s also an opportunity for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student-Athlete Mentors (SAMs) to directly address student-athletes.

Hundreds of North Central College student-athletes from all 22 men’s and women’s athletic teams gathered in the Residential Hall/Recreation Center Thursday, Sept. 15, for the College’s eighth annual Huddle.

This year’s keynote speaker was 1986 graduate Ed Mathey. Mathey told the student-athletes the importance of leadership and relationships and their influence on success, while also sharing anecdotes from his experiences as a baseball coach.

President Hal Wilde and Director of Athletics Jim Miller were the first to speak and reflected on last year’s successes and how to balance athletic and academic success. After the traditional NC Influence T-shirts were distributed and coaches and faculty mentors were introduced, guest speaker Sue Enquist addressed the enthusiastic crowd.
