North Central College alumna Ashley Popp, class of 2011, co-authored a paper, titled “The Global Transformation of Belly Dancing: A Cross-Cultural Investigation of Counter Hegemonic Responses,” which was accepted for publication in the 2012 No LIV issue of the journal “Physical Culture and Sport. Studies and Research.”

North Central College’s Jack Shindler, professor of English and director of international programs, and Kelly Pilleux, international student advisor, presented independent sessions at NAFSA, the Association of International Educators Region V annual conference at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Nov. 2-4. NAFSA Region V is composed of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin and has approximately 800 members representing more than 250 institutions.

Nov. 29, 2011—During North Central College’s D-Term—a three-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas—students have a wide range of opportunities to choose from to enhance and expand their educational experiences. Opportunities range from service to academic to travel and intramural sports, and locations span from across the country to overseas to the Chicago area and campus.

North Central College junior Molly Gstalter studies full time in Heidelberg, Germany, while interning as English teacher to students in local secondary school.

Molly Gstalter, a North Central College junior, has expanded her studying abroad experience during fall term in Heidelberg, Germany, by pursuing an internship. Gstalter is taking classes in German full time at the Heidelberg Universität through the American Junior Year Program, while also interning as an assistant English teacher at Hölderlin Gymnasium, a secondary school in Heidelberg.

Gstalter carries a major in German and minors in secondary education and English language learning at North Central College and is a resident of Skokie, Ill.

Louis Waldmeir, a North Central College junior, is studying abroad in Heidelberg, Germany, and working at an organic German brewery at an old monastery.

Louis Waldmeir, a North Central College junior, is living, studying and working in Heidelberg, Germany, through mid-December. He’s taking classes in German at the Universitat Heidelberg—one of the 50-plus study abroad programs North Central offers its students—and working at an organic German brewery as part of an internship.

Waldmeir is majoring in German and minoring in history of ideas at North Central and is a resident of Dubuque, Iowa.

North Central student Jacqueline Roller hosted her first solo art show July 16 at the Naperville Art League. The Naperville resident plans to complete her studies in 2012 with a double-major in studio art and psychology.



D-Term courses take students around the globe

Feb. 22, 2010—North Central College is offering students a record number of opportunities to study abroad this year.

Students may choose from 10 different programs that will visit 13 different countries during the College’s D-Term in December 2010. The courses are available to all students; even incoming freshman in fall 2010 are eligible to enroll in some D-Term courses abroad.
