More than 2,300 people shared lunch May 18 at North Central College’s Cornerstone Picnic, which included a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Riverwalk Gateway project.

Community members joined students, faculty and staff for a “Foods of Naperville” featuring complimentary menu samples from more than a dozen Naperville restaurants. Entertainment was provided by student performers—including a jazz ensemble, cast members from an upcoming production of “Forever Plaid” and the “NCC Express” group of singers and dancers.

The Cornerstone Picnic will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Riverwalk Gateway north of Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St.

April 26, 2012—North Central College invites the public to the free premiere of the final part of a documentary series produced with Naperville Community Television that chronicles the College’s 150-year history.

“Moving Into the 21st Century” is the final segment of the five-part documentary series “A Promising Start,” which commemorates the College’s Sesquicentennial. The segment will premiere at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Special Feb. 21 Campus Coffee to showcase North Central’s rich history and longtime connections with Japan, including authentic food, attire.

The College will host a special Campus Coffee on Feb. 21 that will focus on the rich history and longtime connections between Japan and North Central College.

Faculty and staff who attend the Campus Coffee on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Smith Hall, will enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, interaction with students from Japan and those learning Japanese, and learning about the College’s connection with Japan.

Connelly, Illinois House honor North Central College with Sesquicentennial resolution

The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates North Central College on its Sesquicentennial in a resolution sponsored by state Rep. Michael Connelly.

Dec. 19, 2011—The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates North Central College on its Sesquicentennial in a resolution sponsored by Michael Connelly, 48th District state representative.

The resolution commemorating the 150th anniversary of the College’s founding was adopted by the 97th General Assembly. Connelly, R-Naperville, presented a copy of the resolution to Harold R. Wilde, North Central College president, in December.

150 Moments: Meiley-Swallow Hall has faith beginnings

Built in 1909 with connections to founders of North Central College, the red brick church was acquired by the College and renamed Meiley-Swallow Hall in 2007.

Dedicated in 2007 as an academic and fine arts building, North Central College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall has connections to founders of the College.

The Evangelical Association was the founding church of North Central College. When the College relocated to Naperville in 1870, the Zion “Old Brick Church” Congregation (now Community United Methodist Church) was instrumental in funding the College’s relocation expenses and became the religious home of many of the professors and their families.

Local historian publishes column about College’s origins in Plainfield

“Although North Central College is officially 150 years old this week, the school has been a Naperville institution for a mere 141 years,” Lambert writes.
