Schacht gives poster presentation at national psychology conference

Patricia Schacht, North Central College assistant professor of psychology, co-presents with former student a poster about research on bullying.

Patricia Schacht, North Central College assistant professor of psychology, gave a poster presentation about her research on bullying at a national psychology conference, the Society for Research in Child Development, held in Seattle April 18-20. The poster was titled “The Effects of Marital Conflict and Parenting on Children’s Bullying, Victimization, and Coping Behaviors.”

Schacht co-presented with recent graduate Rachel Garthe ’12, who majored in psychology and was a College Scholar. Garthe is a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Rachel Garthe earns 2012 Outstanding Major in Psychology Award

Rachel Garthe of Peru was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Psychology Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

May 17, 2012—Rachel Garthe of Peru was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Psychology Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Garthe is a December 2011 graduate of the College who majored in psychology with a minor in sociology. She is the daughter of William and Denise Garthe and a graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School.

She has accepted an offer to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in developmental psychology beginning in the fall at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

Senior psychology major has research paper accepted for publication

Research paper by North Central College senior Rachel Garthe has been accepted for publication in the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research.

Senior psychology major Rachel Garthe had her research paper accepted for publication in the academic publication “Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research.” Titled “The Effects of Self-Esteem and Aggression in Scottish Young Adults on Depression,” her paper will be featured in a future issue. The journal is an international, fully reviewed, quarterly journal dedicated to the publication of undergraduate student research.
