Update: Collection drive for supplies is over; donations and gift cards still welcome

Some North Central College students and their families were affected by the Nov. 17 storms. Thank you to all who gave donations.

11/22 update: Many donated items have been collected for those in central Illinois affected by the tornadoes. Thank you! No new items will be accepted at this time. However, donations of cash, checks or gift cards are still being accepted. Gifts cards to Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Ace Hardware, McDonalds and Meijer are requested. Donations of money and gift cards may be sent via campus to Patricia Schacht (CM 455) or contact her at 630-637-5331 or pmschacht@noctrl.edu.

Schacht gives poster presentation at national psychology conference

Patricia Schacht, North Central College assistant professor of psychology, gave a poster presentation about her research on bullying at a national psychology conference, the Society for Research in Child Development, held in Seattle April 18-20. The poster was titled “The Effects of Marital Conflict and Parenting on Children’s Bullying, Victimization, and Coping Behaviors.”

Schacht co-presented with recent graduate Rachel Garthe ’12, who majored in psychology and was a College Scholar. Garthe is a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University.
 

Schacht speaks to graduate students and professors at Northwestern

Patricia M. Schacht, North Central College’s assistant professor of psychology, gave a talk titled “The Benefits of Teaching at a Liberal Arts College” to graduate students, interns and professors at Northwestern University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on Oct. 24. She discussed the pros and cons of teaching at a small liberal arts college, as well as the application process and ways to increase their chances of landing a job at a teaching college.
 
Schacht was invited to share her experiences at North Central College by a professional colleague.
