Soulful program highlights Black History Month

North Central College features “Deep River: A Spiritual Journey”—a live musical and narrative program about African slaves before the Civil War—on Feb. 23.

On Feb. 23 during Black History Month, North Central College will feature “Deep River: A Spiritual Journey,” a live musical presentation and original narrative about African slaves who lived along the Great River before the Civil War.

The free program will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in North Central’s Koten Chapel at Kiekhofer Hall, 329 E. School St., Naperville.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Jan. 4, 2011)—In one of the first major public events during its Sesquicentennial year, North Central College presents filmmaker Spike Lee as the keynote speaker during its 2011 Martin Luther King Week celebration.

A collection of choirs will perform rousing spiritual pieces Jan. 23 when North Central College presents its 22nd annual Gospel Extravaganza.

The Gospel Extravaganza is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.
