North Central College alumni honored for teaching excellence in Naperville schools

Two alumni of North Central College’s music education program are being recognized by Naperville Community Unit School District 203 for excellence in teaching.

May 15, 2012—Two alumni of North Central College’s music education program are being recognized by Naperville Community Unit School District 203 for excellence in teaching.

Nicholas Janssen, a 2005 graduate of North Central College, received District 203’s Outstanding Early Educator Award for his work as choral director at Naperville North High School. Emily Steffen, a 2010 graduate, received the district’s Outstanding First-Year Teacher Award  for her work at Naper and Ellsworth elementary schools.

North Central College made an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Thursday, May 10.

Jack Brandt, son of North Central College chemistry professor Paul Brandt, was one of three Naperville students selected for the show’s annual Science Kids segment. Jack is a seventh-grader at Kennedy Junior High School.

Jack wore a North Central College sweatshirt on the show. Letterman pointed to his shirt and asked, “Where do you go to school, is it North Central?” Jack proceeded to illustrate the power of atmospheric pressure using the “Can Crush” experiment.

Sophomore marketing, management major joins Chicago Equestrian

Sophomore marketing and management major Sarah Bryan has joined the staff of Chicago Equestrian, where she will work in social media and event coverage.

Chicago Equestrian is an organization that provides news, events, contacts and marketing services for the equine industry, including an online magazine.

Nov. 7, 2011—Naperville Mayor A. George Pradel has declared Friday, Nov. 11 "North Central College Day" in the City of Naperville.

A resolution commemorating the College’s Sesquicentennial was read at the Nov. 1 meeting of the Naperville City Council and presented to College President Harold R. Wilde by council member Robert Fieseler.

North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst is among nine finalists for the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year Award.

“I’m very humbled and grateful,” Stumpenhorst said of his nomination. “We don’t go into this profession to receive recognition.”

Stumpenhorst, a 2003 graduate of North Central College, teaches language arts and social science to sixth graders at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. He credits his experience at North Central for helping him achieve success as an educator.

Oct. 11, 2010—The North Central College bookstore’s new downtown Naperville location will give shoppers an easier way to buy Cardinal apparel and gifts and learn more about the College's storied history.

The bookstore will open for business on Monday, Oct. 18, in its new storefront location at 100 E. Jefferson Ave.

“It puts North Central College’s name right there on the edge of downtown,” says Paul Loscheider, the College’s vice president for business affairs.
