Blanchet and O’Connell tour with Camerata Chicago in Europe

George Blanchet, North Central College percussion instructor, and Dan O’Connell, French horn instructor, performed with Camerata Chicago on European tour.

George Blanchet, North Central College percussion instructor and lecturer in music, and Dan O’Connell, French horn instructor and lecturer in music, were part of a successful European tour, June 15-23, with the chamber orchestra Camerata Chicago. The Chicago-based orchestra performed under the leadership of Maestro Drostan Hall in the cities of Prague, the Czech Republic; Paris, Tulle and Marseille, France; and Milan, Italy.

Blanchet plays percussion in “Annie”

George Blanchet, North Central College percussionist and lecturer in music, plays percussion in the family musical “Annie,” which runs Nov. 21-Dec. 30 at Paramount Theater in Aurora. Blanchet has performed for other musical productions at the Paramount, as well as the Chicago Sinfonietta and Metropolis Symphony Orchestra.

Blanchet has been teaching percussion at North Central since 1998 and directs the Percussion Ensemble.

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, is playing percussion in the Paramount Theater production of “A Chorus Line” with performances through Feb. 5. The smash hit features music written by famed composer Marvin Hamlisch and boasts nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Blanchet has been teaching percussion at North Central since 1998 and directs the Percussion Ensemble at North Central.

 

Blanchet joins Chicago Sinfonietta in special concert

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, played with the Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Center in a farewell concert for Maestro Freeman.

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, played with the Chicago Sinfonietta at Symphony Center in Chicago in the “Maestro Freeman’s Farewell Concert: Women in Classical Music” performance on June 23. This event, which was broadcast live on the classical music station WFMT-FM 98.7, was the final concert for the Chicago Sinfonietta’s founding conductor Paul Freeman. Blanchet teaches percussion and directs the Percussion Ensemble at North Central.

Blanchet performs at Chicago’s Symphony Center

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, was part of a St. Patrick’s Day event “Make Them Hear You” at Chicago’s Symphony Center.

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, was part of a St. Patrick’s Day event, “Make Them Hear You,” at Chicago’s Symphony Center March 16. The celebration included Celtic entertainment with a narration by actor Martin Sheen and performances by Metropolis Symphony Orchestra, Old St. Patrick’s Concert Choir and Trinity Irish Dancers & Vocalists. Blanchet is the timpanist and principal percussionist with the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra.

Blanchet performs live on radio program

George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, performed a new composition live on the classical music station WFMT-FM 98.7 on Jan. 24.

Feb. 18, 2011—George Blanchet, percussionist and lecturer in music, performed live on the classical music station WFMT-FM 98.7 during an 8 p.m. show on Jan. 24 with Alicia Cordoba Tait on oboe. They performed a piece titled “Conversations for Oboe and Percussion” by Patricia Moorehead. The piece was inspired by and composed for Blanchet and Cordoba Tait who are engaged to be married. Blanchet teaches percussion and directs the Percussion Ensemble at North Central.
