College announces three new faculty recipients of endowed chairs

June 24, 2011—North Central College recently named three new faculty recipients of endowed chairs. They are

•    Diane Anstine, Mary Schneller Rosar Professor of Economics
•    Perry Hamalis, Cecelia Schneller Mueller Professor of Religion
•    Brian Hanlon, Coleman Foundation Professor of Entrepreneurship

Hamalis is part of lecture series on global citizenship

Perry Hamalis, associate professor of religious studies and director of academic opportunities, gave lecture as part of Fairfield University lecture series.

Perry Hamalis, associate professor of religious studies and director of academic opportunities, was invited to give a lecture March 16 at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., as part of the school’s lecture series on Global Citizenship. Titled “The Politics of Personhood: An Orthodox Perspective on Global Citizenship,” his lecture “… described some of the ways in which an Eastern Orthodox understanding of human beings as ‘persons’ carries implications for notions of global citizenship and diversity within community.

Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts, professor and chair of music, was the headliner for the Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association (OCMEA) Conference in Columbus, OH, on Nov. 6. Wis presented several sessions to undergraduate music education students from Ohio State, Miami University of Ohio, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Marietta College and other institutions in the state, covering topics of Music Education Philosophy, Rehearsal Design, Collaborative Teaching Techniques, and Repertoire Choice and Concert Programming.

Oct. 8, 2010—North Central College associate professors of education Maureen Kincaid, Nancy Keiser and Kristine Servais were recognized at the American Institute of Higher Education’s 5th International Conference in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 29-Oct. 1, for presenting the conference’s top paper.

North Central College tribute to celebrate legacy of Mary Lou Cowlishaw

North Central College and Hear Us! will pay tribute to the legacy of the late Mary Lou Cowlishaw at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

Oct. 4, 2010—North Central College and Hear Us!, an organization dedicated to helping homeless women and children, will pay tribute to the legacy of the late Mary Lou Cowlishaw.

The event starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the lobby of Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, will begin with a reception commemorating Cowlishaw and continue with a screening of the documentary “On the Edge,” a film about how families deal with homelessness. Admission is free.

North Central’s Board of Trustees approved the following faculty for tenure, promotion and emeritus status at the Trustee meeting, May 21-22, 2010:

Dr. Lora Tyson

An inspiration to hundreds of North Central College students and aspiring educators, Lora Tyson, associate professor of education, died September 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. It was the very same day that more than 100 family members, friends, colleagues and College alumni gathered for a Cubs game to raise funds to support the Dr. Lora Tyson Curriculum Resource Center in Oesterle Library, which has been renamed in her honor.
