Guruianu publishes his memoir "Metal and Plum"

Andrei Guruianu, assistant professor of English, released his memoir “Metal and Plum” by Mayapple Press in November 2010. It’s available at Amazon and www.mayapplepress.com. His book conveys the impact of immigration on his family, contrasting the hardships of Ceausescu’s Romania with the challenges of adaptation to the United States and how painful it is to go home and find the place you knew is no longer there.

Hosted by Dominican University on Oct. 30, the conference was titled Connecting the Dots: Helping Students Integrate Learning Across Contexts.

June 7, 2010--Joshua Bailey, a junior at North Central College, received an award for an academic paper he presented at the 18th Annual Conference for Students of Political Science, hosted by the Illinois State University (ISU) Department of Politics and Government on April 28.

Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence

North Central welcomes its fifth Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, Radha Rajagopalan from Toronto, Canada. Her strong interest in global climate change and water conservation complements the College’s 2009-2010 international and cultural focus on global environmental change.

Richard M. Eastman, Alumni and friends share four decades of memories, North Central NOW Fall 2009

North Central College lost legendary teacher and academic visionary Richard Morse Eastman (H) ’93, professor of English emeritus, on June 17, 2009. He died at his longtime Naperville home at age 92.

After his 36-year career as a professor and dean and vice president of academic affairs, Eastman’s influence continues to be acknowledged by countless alumni who, under his dedicated tutelage, became better writers, readers, speakers and thespians. Many give him direct credit for their successful careers.

Marathon winner also “runs” Chicago Marathon

Jeremy Borling ’02 likes to run marathons, but come October 11, he’ll be too busy helping run the Chicago Marathon to run in it. As communications manager for Chicago Event Management—which organizes the Chicago Marathon for sponsor Bank of America—Borling oversees print publications for several audiences and the marathon’s website. And for the first time, he will coordinate the participation of elite runners from around the globe.
