Alumna wins Elementary School Principal of the Year award

North Central College alumna Kimberly Lisanby-Barber is named the 2012-2013 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association.

Kimberly Lisanby-Barber, a 1977 graduate of North Central College and principal of Lincoln Elementary School in Spring Valley, has been named the 2012-2013 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA).

The award recognizes elementary school principals who have demonstrated a positive impact on their students and learning community. Horace Mann and the IPA announced the award in February.

North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst named Illinois Teacher of the Year

The Illinois State Board of Education has named North Central alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst recipient of the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year Award.

Oct. 24, 2011—North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst is the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year.

Stumpenhorst earned his undergraduate degree in social science and secondary education at North Central College. He teaches language arts and social science to sixth-graders at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. He credits his experience at North Central for helping him achieve success as an educator.

Murawska leads workshop

Jackie Murawska, adjunct instructor of mathematics, led a workshop at the Metropolitan Mathematics Club of Chicago Conference.

Feb. 18, 2011—Jackie Murawska, adjunct instructor of mathematics, led a workshop titled “Investigations Using Inductive Reasoning: Adding Excitement to the Standard Curriculum” for middle school teachers at the Metropolitan Mathematics Club of Chicago (MMC) Conference of Workshops on Feb. 5 in Lincolnshire, Ill. This is Murawska’s third year as half-time faculty in the mathematics department.

Jeannette Clark ’10 may be a new graduate in elementary education, but she’s no stranger to the education process, which is probably why she achieved the honor of 2010 Outstanding Major in Elementary Education. While raising her three children, Clark served for 16 years as a member of the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board of Education. After providing insightful leadership to one of Illinois’ largest school districts, she finished her undergraduate degree and is interviewing for teaching jobs.

North Central grad, school board veteran pursues teaching career

June 1, 2010—Jeannette Clark is no stranger to the education process, having served Naperville and Aurora for 16 years as a member of the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board of Education.

Now, Clark is preparing to gain a whole new perspective on education—from within a classroom. She’s graduating from North Central College with a degree in elementary education and pursuing a career as a teacher.
