David DePino earns Outstanding Student in Forensics Award

David DePino received the Outstanding Student in Forensics Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

David DePino, son of Davida and Mark DePino, of Wheaton, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Student in Forensics Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

A graduating senior, David has a double major in speech communication and history at North Central College. He is a graduate of Wheaton North High School.

North Central forensics places third in state, sets record for national qualifiers

North Central College students win 12 awards at state championship forensic tournament, set program record for national contest by qualifying in 29 events.

Eighteen North Central College students were among some 200 forensic competitors in speech and debate at the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament (IIFA), hosted by Northern Illinois University March 1-2.

North Central College brought home 12 awards. Among them were two Sweepstakes Awards: The College won Third Place Team award in the State of Illinois, and David DePino ’13, majoring in speech communication and history, claimed Third Place Overall Individual Student in Illinois award.

DePino is a senior with majors in history and political science at North Central College. He is the son of Mark and Davida DePino and is a 2009 graduate of Wheaton North High School.

Forensics team is off to great start

After a successful finish in national competition last academic year, North Central College’s new forensics team is already off and competing.

“We’re entering a new season with brand new events, and already the forensic team is continuing to demonstrate a strong record of competitive success,” says John Stanley, assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events.

Three students rank high at AFA National Individual Events Tournament; Nicole Autry ’11 chosen among top 14 nationwide to forensics All-American Team.

April 12, 2011—Following the forensics team’s success at the State Championship Tournament in March, North Central’s team took students to the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) in Kearney, Neb., April 1-5. The students competed against undergraduates from colleges and universities of all sizes across the nation.
