Commencement 2010: A Notable Finale

A stormy forecast on June 12 provided the perfect opportunity to enlist the air-conditioned and roomy environment of the new Res/Rec Center for the College’s 145th Commencement. After a few adjustments to the traditional procession and with the help of audio-visual equipment, the 598 graduates who attended and their families and friends enjoyed the ceremony while thunder boomed outside.

June 11, 2010—North Central College is showing its commitment to sustainability by using a new line of eco-friendly graduation wear made from 100 percent, post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

With millions of plastic bottles ending up in landfills daily and remaining there for generations, the academic apparel manufacturer Oak Hall introduced its new GreenWeaver line, which uses 23 bottles per gown. To date, the company says it has deferred 3.5 million plastic bottles from landfills.

North Central grad, school board veteran pursues teaching career

Jeannette Clark is graduating from North Central College with a degree in elementary education and pursuing a career as a teacher.

June 1, 2010—Jeannette Clark is no stranger to the education process, having served Naperville and Aurora for 16 years as a member of the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board of Education.

Now, Clark is preparing to gain a whole new perspective on education—from within a classroom. She’s graduating from North Central College with a degree in elementary education and pursuing a career as a teacher.

June 1, 2010—An internationally respected cancer researcher and MacArthur fellow will deliver the Commencement address at North Central College's 145th graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 12.

Dr. Olufunmilayo “Funmi” Olopade, Associate Dean for Global Health and Walter L. Palmer Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Human Genetics at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, will address North Central’s class of 2010.
