McMahon gives talk on Common Core Standards for Mathematics

Mary McMahon, associate professor of mathematics and mathematics education coordinator, gave a presentation at the ACI Summer Institute for Educators.

July 12, 2011—Mary McMahon, associate professor of mathematics and mathematics education coordinator, gave a presentation titled “Math and the Common Core” on June 24 at the ACI Summer Institute for Educators, held at the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora. The annual summer institute includes presentations, keynotes and skill-building workshops that focus on teaching diverse students with varying learning styles in high-need schools.

The objective of McMahon’s presentation was to give teachers a familiarity with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

North Central College will host American Mathematics Contest 10 and 12, the premier high school examinations in mathematics.

Dec. 9, 2010—North Central College will host a testing site for the American Mathematics Contest 10 and 12 (AMC 10 and AMC 12) on Feb. 23. These contests are the premier high school examinations in mathematics.

Sept. 28, 2010--North Central College will host a testing site for the American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8) for students in grades 8 and below. Students who are either home-schooled or enrolled in area junior high schools are invited to participate. The contest will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the College's Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St., Naperville.
