Graduating student-veterans are standout students, leaders

North Central College’s graduating student-veterans James Davidson, Adam Doden and Wesley Sorrill are standout scholars, future leaders.

Three student-veterans—James Davidson, Adam Doden and Wesley Sorrill—are among some 730 students who will graduate from North Central College in 2013 and attend Commencement June 8.

Each veteran is a standout student. They are inductees to North Central’s SALUTE national honor society and were named the outstanding student in each of their academic majors at the College’s 2013 Honors Convocation.

North Central College, Chicago Blackhawks, LifeSource cosponsor blood drive March 23

North Central College, the Chicago Blackhawks and LifeSource are teaming up to cosponsor a blood drive March 23 at the College.

Chicago Blackhawks players to be announced later and Tommy Hawk, the Blackhawks’ mascot, are scheduled to be on hand when the College’s Pre-Health Organization (PHO) hosts the event as part of the LifeSource Spring Blood Drive and Marrow Registry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St.

Students may apply by Feb. 20 to present their original research at the College’s 16th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research May 14.

North Central College students may apply by Feb. 20 to present their original research at the College’s 16th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research, which will take place during Honors Day on Tuesday, May 14.

“Pairing wellness with psychology is a good fit. I’m learning about behavior change and why people do or don’t change so I can provide solutions that work.”

Faculty helped Abby discover that “good fit.” “My professor pointed me to public health. I realized I was interested in helping people with health concerns like obesity, nutrition and so much more. It opened many career options.”

Faculty also set her up with job shadowing opportunities at health organizations to confirm her interest in wellness. “I’m so glad I listened to my professors and their advice. It would have been difficult to change direction without their help.”

Abby found time to study abroad, conduct research with faculty, and serve as a resident assistant and officer in an honor society. She plans to work in public health and attend graduate school.

Survey finds North Central College graduates among highest income-earners

Graduates of North Central College earn more income over their lifetimes than peers who graduate from most comparable schools, a new survey finds.

North Central College ranks among the top 15 percent of private, nonprofit schools in the 2011-2012 survey by Payscale.com. The mid-career median salary for North Central College graduates is $81,300, ranking No. 39 out of 303 schools in the private, nonprofit category.

U.S. News & World Report ranks North Central College among America’s Best Colleges

U.S. News & World Report magazine ranks North Central College among America’s Best Colleges for 2013.

North Central College is ranked No. 13 in the Midwest in the Regional Universities category—schools that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s degrees. North Central College was ranked No. 23 among Midwest Regional Universities for 2012.

North Central College recognized as a Military Friendly School for 2013

North Central College has been named a 2013 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine.

The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students. This is the second consecutive year North Central College has earned the recognition.

“A Promising Start: Excellence in Scholarship” on Sept. 4 featured panel discussions, poster presentations and sessions during which nearly 40 faculty members shared stories and findings of their independent scholarly work.
