O’Connor is a graduating senior double-majoring in psychology and sociology with a focus on criminal justice. After graduation he plans to begin training as a police officer. He is a graduate of Bolingbrook High School.

North Central College presents the three-dimensional light artwork of Chicago-based artist Monika Wulfers, a 1968 graduate of North Central, in her exhibit “Monika Wulfers LINES,” Feb. 5 through March 27.

The free exhibit will be displayed in North Central’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Wulfers will greet visitors at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Nicole Young ’15 earns two honors at North Central College

Nicole Young of Plainfield received awards for her service and academic excellence as a writer during North Central College’s 2015 Honors Convocation.

Nicole Young ’15, daughter of Steve and Donna Young of Plainfield, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Writing and Outstanding Service to Student Life awards during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

Nicole, who graduated from North Central College in June, majored in English writing and sociology. She is a graduate of Plainfield Central High School.

Nicole served as a tutor at the College’s Writing Center and consistently earned honors on the College’s Dean’s List.

The hundreds of faculty candidates who’ve visited campus the past 20 years typically ended their interviews in the office of R. Devadoss Pandian, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty. In his fifth floor office of Old Main, they all learned about his passion for teaching—and the No. 1 qualification for working at North Central College.

“You have to teach to every student in the class and in a class of 30 or 35 students, that’s not a small thing,” says Pandian, describing the qualities of a great teacher.

Manilyn Gumapas ’18, daughter of Emmanuel and Erlyn Gumapas of Elgin, was awarded the Mark A. Reid First-Year Leadership Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

Manilyn is majoring in sociology: community studies at North Central College. She is a graduate of Central High School.

North Central College receives grant from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education

In receiving a NetVUE program development grant, North Central College expands existing vocational exploration opportunities and training for students.

Vocational exploration and making a difference in our world are central components of a program development grant North Central College received from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE).

The two-year grant gives North Central College an opportunity to enhance, expand, strengthen and unify existing programs related to the exploration of vocation. Students will have more opportunities to explore educational experiences to help them discover their vocational interests. They also will gain skills to realize that vocation.

Seven North Central College faculty receive tenure, promotions

The North Central College Board of Trustees grants tenure, approves promotions to faculty members effective with the start of the 2015-2016 academic year.

At its May 2015 meeting, the North Central College Board of Trustees granted tenure and approved promotions to several faculty members effective with the start of the 2015-2016 academic year in September. These faculty are:

Leila Azarbad, Ph.D., was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of psychology
