Students serve, teach at daycare in Mexico

Students and faculty travel to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, during July to serve single moms and care for their children at Casa de los Angeles daycare.

The service trip to Mexico is becoming an annual tradition. For six years, North Central students and staff have traveled to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to serve at a daycare at Casa de los Angeles (home of the angels). For seven students and Professor of Computer Science Stephen Renk, the experience was hard but rewarding work.

A group of North Central students spent a week in New Orleans this December as part of the First-Year Experience program. Over the summer, all incoming first-year students read the Dave Eggers book “Zeitoun” about a family’s struggles in the Crescent City following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in 2005. The theme of “Building an Ideal City” was explored during the seven-week FYE 100 course in the fall.

Students accepted into this program earn both a bachelor’s degree—in any discipline—and the master of leadership studies with the completion of 141 credit hours.
