North Central hosts ACI’s Summer Institute for Educators

Several North Central College faculty presented and coordinated the Associated Colleges of Illinois Summer Institute for Educators June 27.

North Central College hosted the Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) Summer Institute for Educators held June 27. North Central’s Jan Fitzsimmons, executive director of Urban Education Laboratory, coordinated the event and several of the College’s faculty presented sessions on various topics.   

Mary McMahon, associate professor of mathematics and mathematics education coordinator, copresented a session titled “Lesson Study: A Mathematics Tool for Teacher Collaboration in the Midst of the Common Core Standards.”

Outstanding faculty and staff are recognized for efforts during 2013-2014

North Central College recognized faculty and administrative staff for outstanding teaching, scholarship and service with Dissinger and Ruge Fellow awards.

In May, six outstanding North Central College faculty and staff for the 2013-2014 academic year received endowed Dissinger awards. Two further faculty members were honored as Ruge Fellows for their inspired teaching and dedication to students.

Micaela Sanchez was awarded the Outstanding Major in Athletic Training Award during North Central College’s 2014 Honors Convocation.

Micaela Sanchez, daughter of Edward and Linda Sanchez of Chicago, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Athletic Training Award during Honors Convocation May 13 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

A senior, Micaela is majoring in athletic training with a minor in psychology at North Central College. She is a graduate of Jones College Prep.

Michelle DePasquale was awarded the Outstanding Major in Psychology Award during North Central College’s 2014 Honors Convocation.

Michelle DePasquale, daughter of August and Linda DePasquale of Geneva, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Psychology Award during Honors Convocation May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Michelle is majoring in psychology and minoring in conflict resolution at North Central College. She is a graduate of Geneva Community High School.

Samantha Eby ’14, a psychology major, received significant award for a research project she presented at the Midwestern Psychological Association conference.

Samantha Eby ’14, a psychology major at North Central College, was recently recognized for her academic work. She received the Council on Undergraduate Research-Midwestern Psychological Association Faculty Student Research Award in recognition of her project, titled “Quantitative electroencephalography patterns in trauma-induced anxiety: An exploratory study.”

Nine faculty receive tenure, promotions

The North Central College Board of Trustees grants tenure, approves promotions to faculty members effective with the start of the 2014-2015 academic year.

At its May 2014 meeting, the North Central College Board of Trustees granted tenure and approved promotions to several faculty members effective with the start of the 2014-2015 academic year in September. These faculty are:

Diane Anstine, Ph.D., was promoted to professor of economics

Michael de Brauw, Ph.D., was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of classics

Shereen Ilahi, Ph.D., was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of history

Wendy Koenig, Ph.D., was granted tenure

Registration is underway for summer school at North Central College

Undergraduate and graduate students attending any college or university can enroll in summer credit courses at North Central College.

Students attending any college or university can enroll in summer credit courses at North Central College.

Registration is underway for a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses that often can be applied toward graduation requirements at a student’s home institution. Class sessions are offered in four- and eight-week terms, starting June 16. The second four-week term starts July 14.
