Students meet with U.S. Supreme Court justices

Four students recently met two U.S. Supreme Court justices—Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia M. Sotomayor—in Washington, D.C., as part of the students’ interdisciplinary research about oral arguments presented before the court. All sophomores, Garrett Lutz is a musical theatre major; Erin Martin, an English literature major; Madeline Moton, a philosophy and political science major; and Stewart Charles, an economics and finance major.

The four met justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia M. Sotomayor while they were conducting interdisciplinary research about oral arguments presented before the Supreme Court.

Senior musical "Pippin" bursts with show-stopping songs and dance

North Central College students will present "Pippin," a hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale.

North Central College students will present "Pippin," a hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale and winner of 11 Tony Awards by Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Four performances will be staged at 7:30 p.m. March 4, 5 and 6, and at 2 p.m. March 7 in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. The story of "Pippin" takes place once upon a time, when a young prince Pippin longs to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment.

Political science professor awarded grant to research race issues

The National Science Fondation awarded Stephen Maynard Caliendo, associate professor of at North Central College, and his partner a grant for a study on race.

Stephen Maynard Caliendo, associate professor of political science at North Central College, and Charlton McIlwain of New York University have been awarded a $21,000 grant by Time-Sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences (TESS) and funded by National Science Foundation for their project, “The Effects of Racial and Racist Appeals on White Voters.”

"Cosmic tenor" Herman White gives talk on origins of universe

Herman White, North Central Trustee and senior scientist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, will give a presentation on how the universe came to be on Jan. 15 at the St. Louis Science Center. He and two other African-American physicists, the "Three Cosmic Tenors," who also love opera, will talk on what would have been Martin Luther King Jr.’s 81st birthday.

Satyan Devadoss '93 Receives Alumnus Recognition Award

Satyan Devadoss ’93, a nationally recognized educator and mathematician, received the Alumnus Recognition Award for 2008. Visiting campus in October, he spoke to mathematics students about robot motion planning, derived from his extensive research in studying shapes and particle collisions.
