North Central College students may apply by Feb. 20 to present their original research at the College’s 16th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research, which will take place during Honors Day on Tuesday, May 14.

Information about the symposium and how to submit proposals may be found on the College’s website. A list of frequently asked questions also is available.

Tracie Morris, vice president of human resources for ComEd, was named a 2012 Company and Executive Woman Worth Watching by Diversity Journal. Morris was nominated by colleagues, peers and mentors for her initiative and achievements as a woman of diversity within her sphere of influence.

Eric Knox is a program director through AmeriCorps Volunteer In Service To America (VISTA) for Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation in Alaska where he assists with Fairbanks First Think Local. The buy local program is designed to advocate for a 10 percent shift in consumer expenditure from outside the Fairbanks North Star Borough to within the borough. He has worked to increase community knowledge of the importance of buying local by creating member booklets, community directories, newsletters, website development, special events and social media campaigns.

A group of North Central College students recently experienced what it’s like to make an important presentation in front of corporate executives from all over the world.

Mary chose North Central College because it let her explore her many interests and talents. She focused on her organizational communication major while playing varsity softball and leading the team as captain, mentoring students as a resident assistant, studying abroad and completing an internship.

“North Central offered everything that interested me,” she says.

Among the highlights was her study abroad term in Costa Rica, where she refined her Spanish skills and gained cultural experiences. “I came back to North Central a more responsible, prepared and enthusiastic student.”

She recommends majoring in organizational communication to pursue many different career fields. “The classwork is diverse and focused, spanning a wide variety of topics. ‘Org Comm’ majors go into marketing, human resources, public relations, student affairs, teaching or many other areas. Knowing how to communicate effectively can help you in any type of job, regardless of the title.”

North Central College ranks among the top 15 percent of private, nonprofit schools in the 2011-2012 survey by Payscale.com. The mid-career median salary for North Central College graduates is $81,300, ranking No. 39 out of 303 schools in the private, nonprofit category.
