College and high school students, educators and adults who aspire to be self-employed artists will gain valuable information about running their own businesses as artists Feb. 24-25, 2012 when North Central College hosts the 12th annual Self Employment in the Arts (SEA) Conference.

North Central College invites listeners to hear several of the College’s choral and instrumental ensembles in “Explore the Sound IV: Untraveled Worlds.”

North Central College presents “Explore the Sound IV: Untraveled Worlds” in identical Feb. 22 and 24 concerts that invite listeners to hear several of the College’s choral and instrumental ensembles and discover the stunning acoustics of Wentz Concert Hall.

Kateri considered large universities for studying music education but decided North Central was a perfect fit. “I loved the idea of a well-rounded, liberal arts education. Here you have the ability to gain leadership skills and study outside your major.”

In her music studies, Kateri pursued both choral and instrumental education and participated in choral, instrumental and jazz ensembles. “North Central is a place where I could dabble in an area like vocal jazz in addition to classical vocal. Gaining a wide variety of experiences prepares you better because you never know what you might end up doing in a school setting.”

In preparing for her student-teaching assignment at a middle and high school, Kateri says the expertise of North Central’s faculty and close mentoring helped ready her for the classroom. “They are really great educators themselves, so they’re good role models as you prepare to go into that field.”

North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst named Illinois Teacher of the Year

Josh Stumpenhorst '03 Teacher of the Year

The Illinois State Board of Education has named North Central alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst recipient of the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year Award.

Oct. 24, 2011—North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst is the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year.

Stumpenhorst earned his undergraduate degree in social science and secondary education at North Central College. He teaches language arts and social science to sixth-graders at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. He credits his experience at North Central for helping him achieve success as an educator.

North Central College alums, siblings enjoy teaching in East Aurora schools
