Brian Hanlon, assistant professor of marketing, presented a paper titled “Emerging Trends in Teaching Entrepreneurship” at the Marketing Management Association Conference in Indianapolis Oct. 1. The presentation focused on a series of best practices related to entrepreneurship course materials, teaching social entrepreneurship, and how to best implement aspects of leadership, ethics and values into entrepreneurship courses. Hanlon was also quoted extensively in an Oct.

Dominic Sulo ’10, a marketing and management major, landed a position in his desired career field: commercial real estate.

Dominic Sulo ’10, a marketing and management major, landed a position in his desired career field: commercial real estate. In July, he began working as a sales agent for Marcus and Millichap, a real estate investment brokerage firm in Oak Brook, IL. The star rusher and Gagliardi Trophy nominee plans to return to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for football season as a spectator. “I’m going to be there as much as I can to watch my brother play his final year,” he says.

Allison conducted the ultimate "taste test." With the help of North Central’s Career Development Center she obtained two summer internships. One involved working in production and design at Sourcebooks, Inc., a publishing company; the other required serving as an events and promotion intern at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. "Both experiences were valuable and helped me decide what to look for in my career,” she says. "I broadened my background and got a taste of two different fields, both related to marketing/advertising in a sense."

Haiti Crisis puts alumna in the spotlight

During the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, Jaclyn Mitchell ’99 served as spokesperson for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago as part of her position as director of marketing and communications. Among her tasks was to handle a press conference at O’Hare International Airport upon the arrival of a United Airlines flight of evacuees. “It was totally amazing,” she said of a day that stretched until 4 a.m. Mitchell and her staff worked without a break for 10 days following the January 12 event.

At a time when shopping malls need customers and condos aren't selling, market research can help developers make decisions about how to improve their properties. Brian Hanlon, assistant professor of marketing, uses his expertise in market research and real estate development to determine what appeals to potential customers. As a researcher and consultant, Hanlon uses customer choice modeling to determine how consumers make decisions and what factors influence their choices.
