Ashley Bartel is assistant director of marketing in North Central’s Office of Marketing and Communications. She was previously marketing coordinator for Chicago Bread, a franchisee of Panera Bread. She resides in Naperville.

Kristina Kaufman M ’08 is an instructor and doctoral student at Illinois State University. She recently published her first picture book for children, “I Soar,” which is available online at Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Kaufman is working on her next picture book manuscript while taking classes toward a doctorate degree in education. She is also seeking funding to support dissertation research on the partnership between businesses and secondary level education to equip graduates with 21st century skills.

Two North Central College students have developed a mobile app for friends to share pictures of food they like.

Two North Central College students have developed a mobile app for friends to share pictures of food they like.

Entrepreneurs Jeremy Markham ’15 and Kyler Juckins ’15 are the creators of DinnDinn, a smart phone app for food lovers. DinnDinn works like a virtual refrigerator. Users upload photos of food, drinks and other items to their page and rate them. Their friends and followers, known as “taste buds,” can comment on the posts.

North Central College’s 13th annual Self Employment in the Arts (SEA) Conference Feb. 22-23 will help aspiring artists learn to become successful entrepreneurs.

The SEA Conference provides educational resources to help aspiring artists gain entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed to establish and maintain careers as independent artists. The conference features performances, workshops, panel discussions and other activities tailored to actors, filmmakers, musicians, painters, sculptors, writers and other artists.

Kelsey created lots of marketing buzz as a student. She helped develop an international marketing initiative for a small business to distribute and sell its baby products to Chinese markets.

She and members of her team, who are part of the College’s Entrepreneurship and International Business Organization, designed an exporting strategy and presented it to the business and at North Central’s undergraduate symposium. Team members have plans to travel to China to follow the initiative.

“North Central’s marketing department does a great job of implementing real-world projects into the curriculum. The projects helped me develop a feel for what marketing is all about and confirmed I’ve chosen the right career path.”

Kelsey secured an internship at Rhea & Kaiser, a prestigious marketing communications firm, and was named North Central’s outstanding major in marketing.

North Central College ranks among the top 15 percent of private, nonprofit schools in the 2011-2012 survey by Payscale.com. The mid-career median salary for North Central College graduates is $81,300, ranking No. 39 out of 303 schools in the private, nonprofit category.
