Students, faculty collaborate in summer-long research

This summer, North Central College students participated in hands-on research on campus, working one-on-one with faculty and collaborating with other students.

For eight weeks this summer, North Central College students participated in hands-on research on campus, working one-on-one with faculty and collaborating with other students. Some 38 students and 12 faculty advisors took part in the College’s Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC). Their work represented a range of academic disciplines with students majoring in biology, computer science, biochemistry, psychology, chemistry, English literature, radiation therapy, athletic training, theatre, human resource management and Spanish.

Film Central presents national premiere of “Littlest Nomads” May 10

Film Central, North Central’s indie/social-change film series, features national premiere screening of “Littlest Nomads,” giving voice to homeless children.

Film Central, North Central College’s indie/social-change film series, presents guest speaker Diane Nilan and the national premiere screening of the short film “Littlest Nomads” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall. The film is the second in the Film Central series during spring term and is sponsored by the College’s English department, fine & performing arts, Office of International Programs and Leadership, Ethics and Values.

North Cental College faculty members—Robert Moussetis, associate professor of international business and chair of management and marketing/Bus; Thomas Cavenagh, Schneller Sisters Professor of Leadership, Ethics and Values, professor of business law and conflict resolution, director of leadership, ethics and values, and coordinator of master of leadership studies program; and Brian Hanlon, Coleman Foundation Professor of Entrepreneurship and assistant professor of marketing—presented an award-winning paper at international conference.

North Central College senior Jenna Slack presents research at national conference that supports using mediation to resolve immigration conflict, direct policy.

Senior Jenna Slack from Carol Stream, Ill., is among 45 students from North Central College whose research project was accepted for presentation at a leading national conference on undergraduate research.

Her research topic—using mediation to examine and resolve illegal migration issues—evolved after a study abroad experience her sophomore year led to subsequent volunteer work.

Record 45 North Central students to present at NCUR

For third straight year, a record number of students will represent North Central College at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).

For the third consecutive year, a record number of students from North Central College will participate in the nation’s leading conference on undergraduate research.

Forty-five students will represent North Central at the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) March 29-31 at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. No other college or university in Illinois will send more students to this prestigious conference.

North Central hosts 2012 Blue Key National Conference

More than 100 students from across the country traveled to North Central College for the 2012 Blue Key National Conference, which took place Jan. 13-14.

The students represented 13 different colleges and universities, ranging from the University of Portland in Oregon to Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Over the course of the conference, students had the opportunity to participate in a vast array of activities.
