Oct. 19, 2011—At North Central College, pre-health students get a full dose of preparation: academics, research opportunities, field experiences, personal counseling and placement assistance.

Rebecca Kirk, a junior with majors in biochemistry and psychology, has had her heart set on becoming a doctor for as long as she can remember. “I’ve wanted to become a pediatrician since the day I was born,” she says.

National Geographic expert to give talk on medical uses for snake venom

Professor and National Geographic expert Zoltan Takacs will give a free talk May 9 about how venom from dangerous snakes can be used for medicinal purposes.

April 13, 2011—Professor and National Geographic expert Zoltan Takacs will give a free talk May 9 at North Central College about how venom from dangerous snakes can be used for medicinal purposes.

Takacs, a professor at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine who studies venoms and reptiles, will deliver the presentation, “Biodiversity is Good for Your Health: Exploring the World’s Most Toxic Yet Lifesaving Creatures.”

Record number of students to present at national research conference

A record 38 students from various academic areas will represent North Central at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research this spring.

Some 700 student-athletes, coaches and faculty mentors met in the Res/Center Center Sept. 12 for North Central’s annual celebration, The Huddle, to kick off the new year. President Hal Wilde and Director of Athletics Jim Miller were the first to speak and reflected on last year’s successes and how to balance athletic and academic success. After the traditional NC Influence T-shirts were distributed and coaches and faculty mentors were introduced, guest speaker Sue Enquist addressed the enthusiastic crowd.
