Four North Central College business students were offered an opportunity of a lifetime—to make a difference in one man’s small, homegrown coffee shop, and help rebuild and restructure his business plan.

Greta Karvelyte ’16 especially felt her dreams of entrepreneurship coming true with this project. “My ambition has always been to own my own business,” she explains. “My parents and I moved here from Lithuania with the idea of the American dream. We’ve struggled through life, and from those struggles I’ve learned I want to be able to fulfill my own American dream.”

North Central College has named Dr. Abiodun “GP” Goke-Pariola its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

North Central College has named Dr. Abiodun “GP” Goke-Pariola its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

Dr. Goke-Pariola will begin his new role at North Central College on July 1 after serving most recently as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina. He previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

North Central College is establishing an innovative academic program in Middle Eastern and North African studies that will include language courses in Arabic.

North Central College is establishing an innovative academic program in Middle Eastern and North African studies that will include language courses in Arabic. The new program is partially funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant.

Beginning in fall 2015 the College will offer a minor in Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) studies, significantly expand Oesterle Library’s holdings in MENA studies and introduce students to cultural experiences in the Chicago area and abroad.

Doh-Khul Kim, North Central College associate professor and chair of economics and finance, had his article, titled “Inflation and Equity Market: Sectoral-Level Analyses,” published in the fall issue of the Journal of Business and Economic Studies (JBES). The article was coauthored with Sung Chul No of Southern University and A&M College.

Kim’s research for this project was financially supported by North Central’s Faculty Professional Development Committee summer research grant.
