May 21, 2012—Jenna Markowski of Lombard was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Journalism Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Markowski is a senior majoring in print journalism and interactive media studies/convergent media at North Central College. After she graduates in June she will work full-time in content development with Quality Logo Products in Aurora. She is the daughter of Michael and Anne Marie Markowski and is a 2008 graduate of Glenbard East High School.

Schmidt is a senior majoring in theatre and English writing at North Central College. She is the daughter of Bradley and Mary Schmidt and is a 2008 graduate of Mascoutah High School.

Ereka Funkhouser of York, Pa., was recognized with two academic awards—the Outstanding Major in Japanese and the Outstanding Student in the Arts and Letters Division—during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Funkhouser is a senior majoring in Japanese and classical civilization with a minor in English at North Central College. She is the daughter of John Funkhouser and a graduate of York Suburban Senior High School.

Film Central presents national premiere of “Littlest Nomads” May 10

Film Central, North Central’s indie/social-change film series, features national premiere screening of “Littlest Nomads,” giving voice to homeless children.

Film Central, North Central College’s indie/social-change film series, presents guest speaker Diane Nilan and the national premiere screening of the short film “Littlest Nomads” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall. The film is the second in the Film Central series during spring term and is sponsored by the College’s English department, fine & performing arts, Office of International Programs and Leadership, Ethics and Values.

SIFE named regional champion, qualifies for nationals

North Central College’s SIFE team is named regional champion and qualifies to compete at nationals after presenting projects to business leaders.

After participating in the SIFE Regional Competition in Chicago on April 16, North Central College’s SIFE team was named a regional champion and qualified to compete in the SIFE USA National Exposition May 22-24 in Kansas City. Some 65 teams competed at the Chicago regional event.

Office of International Programs, ThinkGlobal Arts and North Central’s Sigma Tau Delta co-host talk by award-winning author, poet and teacher April 25.

The Office of International Programs, ThinkGlobal Arts foundation and Sigma Tau Delta, North Central’s English honor society, will co-host a talk by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in Wentz Concert Hall. Divakaruni is an award-winning author, poet and teacher.

Susie Gawriluk '73

Susie Gawriluk is an account executive for Journal Community Publishing Group, selling advertising for three magazines and websites: Silent Sports, Wisconsin Trails and Wisconsin Journeys. She founded Denim and Dessert Theatre in Presque Isle, WI, in 2004 and continues to serve as its artistic director for three annual shows. She married for the first time in September 2011, to Tom Preston, “under a beautiful tent with lanterns and flowers, fresh from friends’ gardens, and a bonfire afterward.” She lives in Arbor Vitae, WI, and may be reached at sgawriluk1@gmail.com.
