North Central seniors accepted to Nashville internship

North Central College seniors Elisabeth Volkamer and Jessica Martin are chosen for internship in Nashville that empowers women to promote social justice.

North Central College seniors Elisabeth Volkamer and Jessica Martin were accepted to a 10-month internship at Belle H. Bennett House, an intentional community for the empowerment of young women at Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, TN.

The program, beginning in August, consists of 40-hour work weeks that focus on female empowerment and the eradication of racism through volunteer work, community living and internships at various organizations in the area.

North Central College students will perform on May 9-12 “Way to Heaven,” a play inspired by actual events that occurred during the Holocaust.

Four performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. May 9-11 and at 2 p.m. May 12 in North Central College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. North Central College student Kimberly Grazulis ’13 participated in the 14th annual Citywide Undergraduate Poetry Festival in Chicago.

The festival was held April 4 at Columbia College Chicago and featured the talents of eight poets from Chicago-area colleges and universities who read their own original works. Other participating institutions included DePaul University, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.

Students learn how to advocate issues with legislators

Eight North Central College students traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the Ecumenical Advocacy Days (EAD) 2013 National Gathering.

More than 700 people from across the country attended the April 5-8 gathering. The schedule of events included workshops that informed attendees of key issues in the global food system and how to effectively communicate with legislators.
