North Central College will host a talk by Bill Bryson Oct. 26 as part of the College’s Sesquicentennial Author Series presented by Anderson’s Bookshops.

Oct. 7, 2011—North Central College will host a talk by Bill Bryson Oct. 26 as part of the College’s Sesquicentennial Author Series presented by Anderson’s Bookshops.

Bryson’s talk begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. The cost is $22 and includes a copy of a new paperback edition of his book “At Home: A Short History of Private Life,” and admission to the author event, question-and-answer session and signing line.

The River Cities Reader recently profiled Associate Professor of English Zachary Jack in a piece that talked about how he is a descendant of seven generations of  families in Iowa.

Jack will deliver an author’s talk and read from his creative-nonfiction book “Native Soulmate” (scheduled for September release) at the Bettendorf Public Library on Thursday, July 21.

Record number of students to present at national research conference

A record 38 students from various academic areas will represent North Central at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research this spring.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Jan. 31, 2011)—For the second year, a record number of North Central College students have been chosen to participate in the nation’s leading conference on undergraduate research.

Kevin Stahr is the public information coordinator for the City of Aurora, IL. He’s responsible for writing news releases, fielding media inquiries, coordinating special events and helping develop various media strategies. Stahr had spent the last 11 years with Suburban Life Newspapers as a reporter and news editor. He lives in Aurora with his wife Toni Drost ’99 Stahr.

Laurel White was named the 2010 Outstanding Senior Woman. Earlier during Honors Convocation, she was also recognized as the Outstanding Student in the Arts & Letters Division and Outstanding Student in English and received the Megan Sweeney Award for achieving the highest level of academic excellence. A College Scholar, White will graduate with a double major in English writing and interactive media studies and a minor in social change/public advocacy. She is president of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta, a tutor in the Writing Center, two-time presenter at the National C


North Central senior earns highly competitive Dunn Fellowship

Majoring in English/writing at North Central College, Laurel White will defer attending Northwestern University for a year to serve as a Dunn Fellow.

North Central College senior Laurel White of Bloomington, Ill., has earned a highly competitive Dunn Fellowship for 2010-2011.

The fellowship provides a full salary and benefits to work for one year in the Governor of Illinois’ Press Office in Springfield, Ill.. Top students from around the country apply and fewer than 20 fellowships are awarded each year. The program begins in August and ends in July of the following year.

North Central student journalists earn 17 awards for excellence

The Fab Four performs the ultimate Beatles tribute concert at 8 p.m. Friday, April 16, in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.
