A new program at North Central College is challenging young minds by giving youngsters their first exposure to advanced mathematical concepts.

The program is called the Expository Engagement (E2) Math Circle, and it’s modeled after similar successful programs held across the country. The American Mathematical Association provided a $6,000 grant to fund the program.

North Central College will send a record 44 students to the prestigious National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) April 3-5 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Forty proposals submitted by these students were accepted for presentation.

North Central College’s education department has been awarded a DuPage Community Foundation grant to support a summer school program in Addison.

North Central College’s education department has been awarded a grant by The DuPage Community Foundation to support a summer school program in Addison.

The award will enable continuation of a program provided by North Central College education students, who gain valuable experience teaching literacy and mathematics to high-need students. The grant is part of more than $200,000 recently distributed by The DuPage Community Foundation to various organizations.

North Central College education alumni named principals of high-achieving high schools

Alumni of North Central College’s master of arts in education program are named principals of suburban high schools with reputations for academic excellence.

Two alumni of North Central College’s master of arts in education (MAEd) program are assuming leadership positions at suburban Chicago high schools with reputations for academic excellence.

Brian Waterman is the new principal of Lyons Township High School in LaGrange while Mark Kolkman is becoming principal of Hinsdale Central High School. Both earned their master’s degrees in educational leadership at North Central College, Waterman in 2004 and Kolkman in 2002. Both positions are effective with the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

Annual Snow Bowl fundraiser for Tyson Center is Feb. 7

The Dunham Fund has showcased its partnership with the Teach First program at North Central College in a video titled “The Dunham Fund: Proud Partner of Teach First.” It features interviews with various North Central educators, including Julie Carballo, director of the Teach First program, students who are Dunham Scholars, and two graduates who are teaching in the East Aurora District 131.
