North Central College’s chapter of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) hosted a demonstration day as part of its National Chemistry Week activities Thursday, Oct. 20.

Rebecca Kirk, a junior with majors in biochemistry and psychology, has had her heart set on becoming a doctor for as long as she can remember. “I’ve wanted to become a pediatrician since the day I was born,” she says.

The article describes how North Central College is offering the nation’s first four-year degree in chemical microscopy through a partnership with Hooke College of Applied Sciences in Westmont.

New this fall, a green chemistry course will focus on the design of chemical products and processes that eliminate the use of hazardous substances.

This fall North Central is offering a green chemistry course for the first time. Paul Brandt, professor of chemistry and chair of chemistry and physics, will be teaching the CHM 430 Special Topics: Green Chemistry course, which focuses on the design of chemical products and processes that eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances.

Today's Student-Veterans Bring a New Dynamic

A growing population of student-veterans is bringing a unique set of experiences to North Central classrooms. They’ve endured military basic training, the heat of Iraq, parachute jumps, rigorous duties and reentry to civilian life.
