Mary Lou Puttkowa Lipscomb is a science curriculum and professional development specialist for IMSA FUSION, an outreach program of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. She writes curriculum and provides professional development to teachers who are part of this after-school math and science program for talented, motivated middle-school students.

North Central College presents “In the Absence of Color,” an exhibit of silver-based black and white photography by alumnus Jon Balke Nov. 20-Jan. 5.

Silver-based black and white photographs by artist and North Central College alumnus Jon W. Balke will be on display Nov. 20 through Jan. 5 in an exhibit titled “In the Absence of Color.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. An artist reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, where guests can meet Balke and discuss his work. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Rebecca Kirk, a junior with majors in biochemistry and psychology, has had her heart set on becoming a doctor for as long as she can remember. “I’ve wanted to become a pediatrician since the day I was born,” she says.

North Central College is honoring J. Charles Eldridge of Wake Forest, N.C., with a 2011 Outstanding Alumni Award.

Biology alumna Jenny Orsburn works as a program specialist for the Lake Michigan Coastal Program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Jenny (Kintzele) Orsburn, who earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from North Central College in 2001, works as a program specialist for the Lake Michigan Coastal Program of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Orsburn’s work recently was featured in the (Michigan City, Ind.) News-Dispatch.

Dana Ripper, a 1998 biology alumna of North Central College, is making a career of avian research, conservation and education.

North Central College anthropology major Jessica Pantel spent the summer excavating and researching ancient civilization and burial sites in Peru.

Anthropology major Jessica Pantel ’13 spent six weeks this past summer participating in anthropological research in the Ancash region of the Andes Mountains in Peru.
