Welcome to the English Language Institute

What do we do?

The mission of the English Language Institute (ELI) is to help multilingual students improve academic English skills quickly, through dynamic and interactive instruction in small, personalized classes. We serve students from high-beginning to advanced levels of English language proficiency and offer two types of classes: intensive English and advanced English language classes for college credit.

The Intensive English Program serves students with high-beginning to low-advanced English proficiency levels. If you want to work on your English skills before starting an undergraduate degree or for other personal or professional reasons, then this program is a great option for you! We offer conditional admission to undergraduate degrees so that you know your scholarship and can plan your course of study.

Excel Coursework is for students who are ready for undergraduate coursework, but want or need to refine their English skills. Excel courses are credit-bearing and count towards your North Central degree. Earn up to 12 credits studying writing, grammar, speaking, communication, and reading skills.

How long would I study in the English Language Institute?

Our programs are designed to serve students at different stages of their English learning journey. Your English proficiency will determine your track and most students complete their track in one, two, or three semesters of study. For questions about which track is the right fit for you, please email eli@noctrl.edu
