China Studies Institute
Peking University in Beijing, China
This program -- located on the campus of Peking University (China's Harvard) ranked the 15th best university in the world by the London Times -- offers two main options. Students who want to devote themselves to Chinese language training full time (24 hours in-class instruction per week) enroll in the immersion track; students who want to learn Chinese part-time while taking other courses in English and engaging in internships can enroll in the nonimmersion track. At least 14 courses are available in English, including internships in business, law, media, IT, NGOs and nonprofits. Volunteering opportunities both on and off campus, a variety of student activities and excursions, and a two-week study trip round out the program.
Internships are available
Junior or senior standing; GPA 3.0 preferred
Immersion Track: Requires 3.0 GPA and one year of Chinese language study
Earn 12-15 credits (depending on the number of courses completed). Students choose to study through either the immersion track or nonimmersion track. All grades earned abroad affect your North Central College GPA when transferred back. You cannot take courses pass/fail.
