Barcelona International College
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
University of Barcelona
This program offers students three options in Barcelona: at Barcelona International College (BIC), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) or University of Barcelona (UB). All three programs offer intensive Spanish language study, along with elective courses taught in English. The electives at UAB focus on business and Barcelona-related humanities courses; courses at UB focus on Spanish culture and history, allowing students to have the full immersion experience. Students in any program mingle with other local and international students on campus, enjoying extensive support services and planned activities.
Junior or senior standing; GPA 3.0 preferred.
Students earn 12-15 credits depending on course load and length of stay. All grades earned abroad affect students North Central College GPA when transferred back. Students cannot take courses pass/fail. Students take a Spanish language placement exam, once they arrive in Barcelona, to determine their Spanish study level.
Barcelona International College (BIC): great option for 200-level students who intend on taking content and elective courses in English. Spanish language classes are taught in Spanish.
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB): great option for 200-300-level students who intend on taking content courses in English or Spanish. Spanish content and elective courses are taught to accommodate those non-native Spanish speakers.
University of Barcelona (UB): great option for those upper level Spanish students who are very comfortable and confident in their Spanish speaking and writing abilities. This is a great option for heritage speakers, or students who speak Spanish at home, and who are comfortable taking all classes taught in the Spanish language with all native Spanish speakers. Course content and language courses are not accommodated to meet the needs of students learning Spanish as a second language.
Note: Students must have courses pre-approved by North Central College prior to taking them abroad. If students change their course schedules while abroad, they must get this change approved. Some departments only permit students to take a certain number of courses that count toward their major abroad; by getting all courses pre-approved, this ensures that these courses will count towards their degrees.

Students live with a host family in Barcelona. Students may live with their host family by themselves or with another international student.
